The £370,000,000 Network Rail “Access for all scheme”, has been designed to provide accessible routes for the elderly and disabled by adding lift shafts, ramps and other means to convert the station into a ‘step free’ environment. N.L. Williams Group provided an anti corrosive protection coat and DDA compliant safety measures, to the newly fabricated Shirley access platform. Totalling at just over 1300m2 and sections weighing over 14 tonne, the platform consists of two staircases, two lift shafts and one inter connecting main span.
